If one man can be credited with resuscitating American commercial animation from its near-death experience in the ‘80s and ‘90s, the credit would have to go to Fred Seibert.
-from Joe Strike’s essay ____________________ Original Cartoons The Frederator Studios Postcards 1998-2005 Edited by Eric Homan & Fred Seibert Essays by Jerry Beck, Steven Heller, and Joe Strike This book weaves a combination of color artwork, interviews, and essays to chart the progress of the Frederator Studios from its inception. With over 200 color plates of promotional postcards and posters, an extensive interview by Joe Strike from AWN.com (the leading publication of the animation industry), and essays by leading animation and graphic design authors Jerry Beck and Steven Heller, the reader gets a unique picture of the art of a cartoon studio. 99 original cartoons, 33 filmmakers, and 4 hit television series later, Fred Seibert’s Frederator Studios has established itself as one of the most innovative, prolific, and successful independent cartoon producers of the past 15 years. With shows like The Fairly Oddparents, The Powerpuff Girls, Dexter’s Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, Cow & Chicken, ChalkZone, and My Life as a Teenage Robot, Frederator Studios has revived the concept of the classic, creator-driven cartoon, a kind of back-to-the-future approach that has created a new golden age in animation, discovering filmmaking talent such as Butch Hartman, Genndy Tartakovsky, and Craig McCracken. Contributors Jerry Beck is an animation historian and producer, with more than ten books to his credit, including Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies: A Complete Illustrated Guide, Animation Art: From Pencil to Pixel, and The 50 Greatest Cartoons. Steven Heller, art director of the New Yrok Times Book Review, is the co-chair of the School of Visual Arts MFA/Design program. He is the author of over 90 books on graphic design and popular art, including The Education Of A Comics Artist. Eric Homan runs creative development for Frederator Studios in Hollywood, and is a devoted deltiologist. Fred Seibert founded Frederator Studios in 1998, after 20 years as an award winning producer and executive. Joe Strike is a New York City-based writer/producer with a lifelong interest in animation. ____________________ For bookstores: Publisher Easton Studio Press Category Art, Graphic Design, Animation Ship Date October 2005.
