Oh Yeah! Cartoons, Season 4!

It's official: Frederator Studios and Nickelodeon are again out to find the coolest cartoon talents for a new season of Oh Yeah! Cartoons. The anthology series that gave kids 99 different cartoons – including the very first The Fairly OddParents, ChalkZone, and My Life as a Teenage Robot – is looking to fill 39 slots with 39 brand new shorts. And why shouldn't one (or more) of them be yours?

Here are just a few of the many, many questions we're asked on a daily basis about Oh Yeah!

  • What's an Oh Yeah! cartoon?
It's a funny, seven-minute, character-driven cartoon for girls and boys. We don't care if your characters are aliens, humans, monsters, bananas, garbage cans, or ponies, as long as they’re original and tell a funny story.

  • What's in a pitch?
We want to know you've got a great character and are able to tell your story in an entertaining way. We think the best way to do that is through a storyboard. We don't expect a full-blown production board, just a short, punchy, twenty or thirty pages of rough drawings, basic poses, and a good sampling of dialog.

You don’t really need bring us show bibles, character model sheets, or a list of future storylines. We only want to know about the seven minutes.

  • A storyboard? Isn’t that a lot of work?
It sure is; you won’t catch us doing one. That’s why we ask for just a PITCHBOARD. Show us whatever it takes to convey the overall cartoon with its major beats. Be loose, but be efficient. If we like your pitch enough to work with you, that’s when we pay you for your full storyboard.

  • Can I make my short CG?
Absolutely. Or Flash. Or stop motion. Or traditional 2-D. Whatever works best for you. We're accepting any animation medium that you feel good about for your idea.

  • How long will pitches be accepted?
From today until the thirty-nine slots are filled.

  • Are these pilots?
Oh no! Oh Yeah! shorts are meant to be stand-alone cartoons just like in the old days of theatrical cartoons. We’re most interested in great characters that you love. Fully-produced, they'll air on Nickelodeon beginning towards the end of next year.

  • What if Nickelodeon has already passed on my idea?
We'd still love to see your cartoons, no matter what anyone else says. Some people pitch to Oh Yeah! first, and then to Nick. Some the other way around. Just because your idea hasn't worked for Nick or Frederator in the past doesn't necessarily mean it won't work for OY!4.
